Having just arrived back in town, I only today heard the sad news of __(name’s)__ death. Please accept my most heartfelt condolences, late as they may be. This sad news has come as a great shock to me.

I’d known __(name)__ and done business with __(him/her)__ for a number of years and it was always a pleasure to deal with such an honorable individual. __(Name)__ was a real asset to your organization and to our community in general. I know the days to follow with be difficult ones for you. Dealing with your sorrow and trying to replace a person of such high caliber, will be a momentous task.
