Reconciliation with Partner’s Parents

Dear ...

I am writing this letter to acknowledge to you that I am aware of your currently feelings towards me and how hard it is for you to accept that __(Name)__ loves me and has chosen to reunite with me. I also want you to know that I genuinely do understand why you feel the way you do.

There are a number of things that go on in a relationship that can finally bring it to a boil and it was no different with __(Name)__ and me. Regardless of everything else that went on in our relationship, in the end what stood in the forefront was my behaviour. There’s no doubt that I was viewed as __(briefly described how your behaviour looked in the end – Example: a selfish individual who cared only about....)__. Looking back, I can understand how it would come across that way.

Believe me, it is not the kind of behaviour that I am proud of. The only explanation I can give, though not attempting to excuse it here, is that the __(briefly describe what contributed to it – Example: the constant stress of.....)__ contributed greatly to it. Ironically enough, I was only trying to __(briefly describe what you were attempting to do during this time)__ in order to give __(briefly describe what the good end result was supposed to be)__. Regrettably, it all backfired on me.

I have now finally come to the realization that I am not a super hero and I can’t do and fix everything. In reality, I am but a fellow human being, trying to live life in the most decent and moral way that I know how. Do I make mistakes? Am I fallible? Absolutely! I’ve found out that I am no different in this way than every other person on the planet. It’s all about learning from our mistakes and trying to do better the next time.

In learning these life’s lessons of late, I have been shown some very important things...things that really matter. For instance, I’ve learned that it’s not about being __(briefly describe what you were reaching for – Example: a famous athletic star or becoming a renowned business success story)__ that’s important. It’s about being there for your loved ones when they need you; being a friend when it really counts; spending time investing in the most important thing of all in this world...your relationships. That’s what real heroes are all about.

I realize that I don’t know everything there is to know about life. There is far too much to learn and even over an entire lifetime, nobody ever knows it all. But there is one thing that I do know for sure at this point. And that is that I am deeply in love with__(your daughter/Name/etc.)__ and it is my desire to do everything in my power to make__( her/him)__ happy.

I can appreciate that it may take some time for you to accept me back into your are only protecting someone you love and I get that. I do, however, want to state for the record that I would never deliberately or knowingly hurt __(your daughter/Name/etc.)__. __(She/He)__ means more to me than anything in the world—I love __(her/him)__ more than life itself. And so for her sake, for her happiness, I can only rest in the hope that your hearts will soon soften towards me.

Yours sincerely,
